ABOUT

community support announcement

As a community mental health counseling agency, we want to clarify that our stance is and always will be supporting our community. This includes taking a stance that ALL individuals should have basic human rights and be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness regardless of age, race, cultural background, gender, sexual orientation, etc. As therapists, our ACA Code of Ethics dictates that we:

  • honor diversity and embrace a multicultural approach in support of the worth, dignity, potential, and uniqueness of people within their social and cultural contexts;

  • promote social justice.

In following our ethical codes, we also disagree with and stand firmly against anyone or any organization that engages in oppressive, discriminatory, and harmful actions (including ICE and/or any government or political authority) towards others. When any individual or group is targeted, mistreated, disrespected, or discriminated against, it is a loss for all humankind. Therefore, we strongly disagree with the current atrocities, unlawful detaining, inhumane treatment, and deaths happening in our country and stand with those taking moral and political stands against the brutal acts of violence and discrimination happening across America.

We hope to not only provide a safe and respectful space for our clients and community, but we also hope to advocate for it on a larger scale within our country. The more we stand together, the more we strive to make the world a better place for EVERYONE (not just some). During these difficult times, all of us here at the agency hope that you will always remember... You are seen. You are important. You are valued.

As a BIPOC, queer-owned business, we prioritize providing a safe space for all LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals. As an agency, we strive to provide a comfortable and caring environment built on mutual respect and non-judgment for everyone. We seek to support and empower clients to achieve their goals, whatever they may be. As therapists, we have carefully chosen our specialties based off of gaps in mental health services and we continue to evaluate these needs to best support our community. We also believe in a holistic approach to wellness, and take the mind/body connection into consideration. We also work to advocate and engage in community issues and events.

Our agency model is built around research on how to prevent work burnout for mental health therapists. We strive to provide quality training, supervision, and support for therapists to promote competency around quality services to clients. We also strongly believe in providing a supportive, positive work environment and self-care for our therapists, so that they are at their best when providing services.

The mission of The Counseling Exchange is to support our therapists, our clients, and our community.
